We looked at a selection of MMAs and we looked at the conventions that were associated with them. By looking at these conventions, the artists name, album title and images were all shown in the places that were expected. When it comes to me designing my MMA, it is important that I take into consideration all these factors so my MMA stands out. Below is the selection of MMAs that I looked at as well as the notes that I took as well. I noticed that in most of these MMAs, there was always an image as the background as well as all of them had the artist name and the album name as well. People could clearly see who the artist was and album name because it stands out in size and font meaning that people will be able to see it clearly. Another convention I noticed with some of the album covers is that there were tour dates on some of them so people would be able to see when the artist is going on tour. Another convention I noticed within these MMAs are that a lot of them seem to have the record label that they have worked with, a lot of people will not care about the record label but they put it on there to try and get that label noticed. One final convention that I noticed was very popular was that the artists social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as their soundcloud as well so people are able to follow them or like them on their social media sites.

I looked at existing music magazine adverts and i was able to notice conventions and looked at adverts which are similar to my band, Imagine Dragons. I was able to use these conventions when creating my MMA to make it appealing to the audience and make it appealing.
This is the Arctic Monkeys music magazine advert and i liked the simplicity of this and looks really professional. The common conventions used is that the artist and album name is shown which is a common conventions on a high amount of MMA's. Another convention that i saw was the date of the album and when it is coming out. One other feature i noticed was the record label at the bottom of the MMA. Also the image used on this is quite good because in one of their music videos, the line represents the vocals and instruments being played.
Another Music magazine i looked into was The Script and this one is very different to the Arctic Monkeys one because this one uses an image of the band members unlike the other one. This one doesn't state the album name but shows the dates and where they are performing on what dates. This one also includes a lot of advertising at the bottom of the page as well as websites, record labels and production companies.
This next MMA is off The Killers MMA and this has the name of the band and album as well as the release date. But this one doesn't include the band members on but still uses an image which i will be looking to include an image of the artist into the magazine advert. This one also mentions the album and mentions it is brand new as well. It also mentions one of the new singles in it as well as the production company and website.
This last image i got was off one of Imagine Dragons Music Magazine adverts and the conventions spotted on this was the band name with the band members on the cover, It also includes the name of the magazine as well. But unlike some of the other MMAs there is no details to the album name or record labels so when it comes to me creating one of my own, I will not be wanting to use this one as inspiration because there is a lack of common conventions included on it.By looking at some MMA's i noticed that the Artist name is mainly dominated on each of them and that has got me thinking that i want to include this into my MMA. I also saw that most of them include the album name and dates of when the album is out. I also liked the idea of some of them having just the image on the cover but i will be wanting to include the artist on mine. On my MMA, i will be including some of these main conventions which are noticed in existing ones.
Research into existing Music Magazines

This screenshot is off the music magazine called New Music Express also known as NME. The 2 images are of off the different magazine covers. The first one is from a long time a go and it is easy to tell because of the colour scheme. The second one is off a later date and as you can see it is similar in terms of the content that is on the front cover such as having the band/artist, information of other artists and bands that are going to be in the magazine and some sort of slogan as well.
This image is a screenshot of WHSmith's website and all the magazines that they offer to do with music. They offer 58 of them but only have the best selling ones in store. The website shows the audience the name of the magazine and either if it was published in the UK or published by a foreign publication. There are many different genres of magazines that are offered and would appeal to a lot of different age ranges.
This is another music magazine from NME and it is their first magazine which was published in 1952. The front cover of this magazine is just a collection images of artist and band members that were popular in that year. Later that year they rebranded NME which featured more artists and bands.
This is a mix magazine and this magazine is aimed at the genre Dance. On this magazine there is a picture of an artist and a slogan at the top of the page which is about the worlds biggest dance music and clubbing music. This will not suit my genre of music because the artists of this type of music tend to have DJ's. The colour scheme used would not be suited for a rock magazine for example because the colours tend to be quite dark.
This is a music magazine which is from the biggest sellers Q, this would probably be the best music magazine for the band I am doing which is Imagine Dragons because as you can see on the front cover of this one, there is Mumford And Sons meaning which are associated with Indie Rock which is the same genre as my band. On this magazine you have the main artist on the front which is Mumford and Sons and a slogan as well as some other artists being mentioned on the page. Overall I think Q magazine will be the magazine that Imagine Dragons would use because they are also quite well known. This magazine is quite expensive because of the glossy feel that it has to it unlike the older ones, this is because this one includes an exclusive CD. This is also aimed at a lot of different genres as well.
This magazine advertisement is quite popular and is aimed at the genres Punk Rock. As seen from the front cover, this cover doesn't seem serious because the colour scheme used and the artist doesn't seem to appeal to a lot of middle aged people but to some younger people. This front cover shows the artist, the slogan, the heading of the song and much more. I don't think Imagine Dragons will use this magazine cover.

This final magazine cover is from the magazine cover NME and it includes the band name and a slogan as well as the festival Glastonbury. I am not sure if Imagine Dragons would consider using NME but I still think Q is the best one for my band. The image used is probably at Glastonbury because of the background. There is also images and mentions of some of the other artists.
This is my plan for my MMA.

Construction: MMA
When it came to producing my own MMA, I first needed to open up a template just like the digipack because this is going to give me the correct dimension. Just like my CDD, i decided to keep the red as the colour and include the artists face on the MMA looking away from the camera. This was also the same image which i used on my CDD because it was a really good picture to use.
I then went on and included text onto my MMA and kept the font style the same and made sure that i kept Imagine Dragons in block capitals and Night Visions in lowercase, this was so it matches up to the CDD quite well, I also decided to have the album date in block capitals in order for it to stand out.

I then moved the artists face to the very left hand side of the page in order to fill the space and I also then duplicated the and mirrored it so the artists face is looking in the middle in which it is containing the important details. But I then noticed that the colour didn't go well because of the different shades of red and therefore I had to cut out the artists face from the background and then get the same image and enlarge it in order to get the red background and that the 2 shades do not look different. I then went on and included all 3 main social media network logos in terms of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I also then decided to include the Amazon website just to show the audience where they are able to purchase this from.
This image on the right is me zooming in onto the artists head and cutting out the pixels and making sure that I erase the rough edges and smooth them down in order to make it look a lot more professional. This image on the left is me showing how i was able to mirror the artists face.I then asked my target audience as of what fonts they found the best and I picked out a selection of 4. It is important that the target audience give me an honest opinion because it needs to be suitable for the target audience in order to make sure that they purchase the magazine advertisement based on the style of it. I asked Jake and Stephen to give me their opinion on the 4 different fonts that I picked out and asked them what one they think is the best.
This is the first font on the right hand side and it is called chalkboard. I asked 2 members of my target audience and they said that they really liked the font but however they didn't think it would suit the genre of music and they didn't think it would look good on my MMA.
This is the next font and this was called Brittanic Bold and Jake and Stephen though that this would work really well with my MMA as it suits the genre of music and matches well. So therefore this font is the one I am going to think about when it comes to choosing one.

This next font is the Apple Chancery and Stephen and Jake didn't like the look of this font and therefore said to me not to use it because it doesn't look very professional and they won't think it would look right with the colours in which i have got in my MMA.
This final font is the Futura font and Jake and Stephen liked this font quite a lot and they even stated to me saying that if the Brittanic Bold font was not an option, then they would have said that this was the best font for me too choose.
